U14s crowned Borough Champions AGAIN !

After watching our 1st Form win 17-0, Mr. Hodgson and Mr Jennings took the 3rd Form to defend their Borough 5-a-side title a hosted by Edmonton County.

We dominated our group games by beating Chace Community 4-0, St. Ignatius 3-0 and Kingsmead 6-1. We breezed through into the quarter finals and it was clear the two teams to beat were Enfield Grammar (who were on the other side of the draw and us).

Our quarter final was against Edmonton County who were disappointed they were drawn against us. With their Deputy Head Teacher giving them encouragement from the sidelines, we were very strong in every manner and won 4-0 taking us through to the Semi Finals. We were drawn against St Ignatius who wanted revenge for the group game defeat. It was a very physical match as they were much bigger than us. However, we let our football do the talking and won 2-0 which saw us through to the final against Enfield Grammar.

For the last 3 years in this age group and in Borough competitions it has been a healthy rivalry and the final was no different. It was an extremely physical final, both teams putting every ounce of energy they had into the game. It was a game we were always in control of although a few mistake let them into the game when we missed a variety of chances. We took the lead through an outrageous piece of skill by Ethan Nwaneri. Grammar equalised making it 1-1. 2 quick fire goals from us took us into a 2 goal lead. However, an unfortunate own goal made it 3-2. In the last few minutes, we continued to create a host of chances and retook our two goal lead and comfortably held out for a 4-2 win.

Throughout the tournament, we were approached by numerous teachers from a variety of schools and complimented on the style of play and how we performed. We have definitely put this age group on the map and remain the team to beat in Borough competitions. Well done to Aston Goumal who made some superb saves throughout, Joshua Elash, Luis Brown, Harrison Dudziak, Ethan Nwaneri, Zach Omirou and Gabriel Morgante on another excellent tournament and another trophy to add to the collection.
