Road to Wimbledon is the biggest junior tournament in British tennis and gives all 14U players the opportunity to progress through to compete on the world-famous grass courts at Wimbledon.
Twenty St John's students from F3 to 2nd form took part in this exciting new event, demonstrating determination to succeed along with sportsmanship in all their matches.
In the boy’s tournament semi-final Brandon Jones (2nd form) beat Freddie Thrathen (1st form) 4-1 to go through to the final. Meanwhile in the other semi-final Timi Soremekun in F3 beat Chris Thrassyvoulou (1st form) 4-2 to take him through to the final.
In the final there were some fantastic rallies with some games going to deuce, however it was Timi from F3 who stayed mentally focussed and determined to take the victory, winning 4-0.
In the girl’s tournament final, Selin Poyraz (1st form) beat Esma Wyatt (1st form) 4-1.
Timi and Selin both go through to the county finals in July where they will have the opportunity to compete at Wimbledon if successful.
