It was an end to a busy week for the 3rd Form. On Monday they beat Northbridge 4–1 in a league match. Wednesday they brushed aside Archbishop Tenison in the National Cup Today, in a separate National cup competition, we played Richard Challoner. This was a 4th round match that we knew would be a very tight game.
We started slowly but took the lead when Joshua Elash’s shot proved to be too powerful for the keeper as it crept under his body. The pitch was cutting up badly, making it hard for both sets of players to get hold of the ball. The energy and desire from both teams was outstanding. Richard Challoner equalised just before half time making it 1-1.
There were no goals scored in the second half as both teams missed chances due to great goalkeeping and last ditch tackles. Both teams put their bodies on the line and were determined not to lose this game. We went into extra time, 5 minute halves. Essentially it was golden goal.. it was hectic, fast and nail biting as both teams tried their best to take their team through to round 5.
Harrison Dudziak made a run through midfield onto the left wing. He crossed the ball across their box and at the back post Joshua White struck the ball beautifully and found the top corner making it 2-1.
The last chance of the game in the last minute fell to Richard Challoner as we defended for our lives. Their striker attempted an over head kick from a cross which went inches wide. For a moment we thought he had equalised, luckily, it went wide and we progress.
The effort, passion and desire to work for each other was exceptional. We only took 11 players - every single one of them were tremendous. 3 games this week, 3 wins.
In other amazing news. This group of boys were awarded with the team of the month for their impressive victories from the English School Football Association. They deserve all the credit for their hard work. Well done boys.
