On Thursday, the 1st Form travelled to Enfield Grammar to compete in the English Schools Football Association 5-a-side competition. Our current 3rd Form won this compeititon two years ago and represented the Borough of Enfield in the next round. We had high hopes of this years 1st Form of doing the same!
We eased through the group, finishing top and earning a place in the semi finals by beating,
Edmonton County 5-2, St. Ignatius 1-0, Bishop Stopford 3-0 and Highlands 3-0. Every year, it seems to be a close battle between Enfield Grammar, St. Ignatius and ourselves. Enfield Grammar and St. Ignatius played each other in one semi-final, while we were drawn against Southgate. We struggled to take our chances, however, we went through to the final after our goalkeeper Raphael Summers made a very good save in a sudden death penalty shootout taking us to the final. St. Ignatius beat Enfield Grammar so that was who we would play
We had already played St. Ignatius earlier in the competition so we knew how to beat them and also they would not want to lose against us again! Unfortunately for them, we proved far too strong, winning the game comfortably 2-0. St. Johns crowned Borough 5aside Champions and will now go through to the next stage to be played next year. Superb performances all around with all of our 8 players playing a crucial part in all our victories. Well done to Raphael, Demi, Ife, Daniel, Aniello, Alexandro, Nathan and Zain!
